This doc is the non-dilutive grant inventory. Vendor credits (AWS, Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic) live in Sponsors. Accelerator stipends live in Accelerators.
Last verified: 2026-05-18.
Executive summary
Grants are slower than equity (3-9 months to award) but cheaper per dollar (no dilution, no payback). The reporting burden is real and must be costed into our staffing plan. We pursue grants under three positioning angles, each tuned to the funder's mission.
Strategic angles
For each grant application, lead with the angle that matches the funder's mission. Never use a generic narrative.
| Angle | Funders this resonates with |
|---|---|
| (a) Post-conflict Sudan reconstruction | UNESCO TEP, GIZ, USAID DIV, Mastercard Foundation, Open Society, UK FCDO |
| (b) Arabic-first digital public infrastructure | NTDP, RDIA, Monsha'at, KAUST, Wa'ed Ventures, Vision 2030 programs |
| (c) Open-source education commons | Mozilla Open Source Awards, Sovereign Tech Fund, GitHub Accelerator, IDRC |
A single application typically leads with one angle and references one other. Lead with what the funder fundamentally exists to do.

Application priority (rank-ordered)
- Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship — best risk-adjusted opportunity: non-dilutive, African-founder eligibility, EdTech-named, $60-70K.
- NTDP — Vision 2030's tech catalyst; $430M+ deployed in 2026; King Fahad pilot is our case study; AI is named priority; highest single-source ceiling.
- UNESCO Sudan TEP 2025-27 — direct match for post-conflict reconstruction angle; relationship-building unlocks downstream multilateral channels.
- The DIV Fund (USAID DIV successor) — $50K-$5M tiered, low-income markets education in scope. Sudan eligibility almost certain.
- Mozilla Open Source Awards — fast cycle, $5K-$100K, OSS-aligned.
- African Union EdTech/TVET/AI Skills Call — already in submission queue; cheap to follow up.
- Wa'ed Ventures (Aramco) — bridge into Aramco-affiliated schools; B2B SaaS thesis explicit.
- GIZ — Sudan delivery-partner model; relationship play.
Everything else stays in watching mode unless a specific signal opens.
Reporting burden — honest accounting
Grants have non-trivial reporting overhead. We budget this against the grant amount.
| Reporting type | Typical time cost | Affects |
|---|---|---|
| Quarterly narrative report | 8-16 hours per quarter | All multilateral, most foundation |
| Annual financial audit | 40-80 hours + auditor fees | World Bank, IFC, USAID, GIZ |
| Impact measurement (M&E) | 20-40 hours per quarter | Mastercard, Gates, Hewlett |
| Compliance reporting (DPA, GDPR, etc.) | 10-20 hours per grant | EU-funded, FCDO |
Rule of thumb: if reporting overhead exceeds 20% of the grant amount in hours-at-internal-rate, don't apply.
What we will NOT accept
- Grants that demand exclusivity (no other funder during the grant period).
- Grants that demand we close-source any portion of the codebase.
- Grants where the IP terms transfer ownership to the funder.
- Grants that require physical office presence in a city where we can't operate.
- Grants from politically aligned funders that would create reputational risk in our target markets.
How we prepare per application
- Read the funder's annual report — every grant officer expects you to know their last 3 funded projects.
- Match the angle — lead with (a), (b), or (c) per the funder's mission.
- Build the impact metric — funders fund outcomes, not technology. Translate our work into "students reached," "admin hours saved," "schools onboarded."
- Adapt traction language — drop MRR / ARR; lead with adoption, retention, impact.
- Confirm budget compatibility — most grants want a 12-24 month deployment plan with line-itemed budget.
- Submit via T4 (Outreach) — cold grant-officer email to set up an intro call before formal submission.
- Follow-up cadence — grant cycles are slow; D+14, D+30 (T11, T12 in Outreach).
- Log status in the table above and Data Room.
